E-learning course on Energy Efficiency in SMEs |
Background:
Enterprises, especially SMEs are faced with the challenge of rising energy costs. For SMEs, energy management has emerged as a critical factor to survive intense competition. This requires a multifaceted approach that includes developing technical capacity and creating a pool of experts to promote EE in SMEs. To accomplish this, the APO has implemented several projects on the topic since 2006 including training courses, workshops, and Web-based courses on energy management followed by advanced training. Those projects also provided platforms for continuous interactions among member governments, enterprises, and the APO. Based on those interactions, it is clear that industries, commercial establishments, large building complexes, and public utilities can accrue substantial savings on energy bills by adopting EE techniques, systems, and technologies in their plants, processes, and facilities and also reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Recognizing the significance of and need for capacity building in this area, the APO is continuing energy management- and EE-related projects in 2010.
